Real Madrid were bundled out of the Copa del Rey by a determined Celta de Vigo as they lost 4-3 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.
After a promising start from Real, they were unfortunate not to score in the 26th minute. Cristiano Ronaldo rose high to head a cross goalwards, only to see it come back off the bar, hit him and bounce clear off the post.
At the other end Celta piled on the pressure with two quick-fire chances. A long ball came into the Los Blancos area where John Guidetti pounced to half-volley at goal, but Kiko Casilla made the stop. The resulting corner kick then forced Casilla into another save as Facundo Roncaglia shot from close range.
The breakthrough arrived one minute shy of half-time as Celta took control of the tie. Iago Aspas beat Nacho to a loose ball just outside the Madrid box before squaring for Guidetti. His shot was parried by Casilla but the ball came off Danilo and found the back of the net.
Just past the hour mark the visitors were back in the game. A bit of magic from Ronaldo levelled matters as he smashed a free kick beyond goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez for 1-1.
Toni Kroos went agonisingly close for Zinedine Zidane's men as they piled forward, but it was Celta who struck next.
In the 85th minute the hosts were 2-1 up thanks to Daniel Wass who coolly slotted a finish from 18 yards out after great interplay between his teammates.
Madrid tried to dig themselves out of the hole again in the 90th minute when Kroos's corner was flicked on by Karim Benzema and nodded home by Lucas Vazquez, but it ended in a 2-2 draw as Real crashed out of the cup.
